AI has entered the creative sector. Over the last months, I have explored many aspects of AI and researched its potential in our design process as well as exhibit design. AI's capabilities are developing rapidly. Every other week there is a new tool or model that surpasses the previous.

Many Tinkers spend their spare time searching for inspiration both in the Netherlands and abroad, often discovering unique museums along the way. I have compiled a list of such museums that each have something special that Tinkers enjoy.

If you talk with someone for more than half an hour, the conversation will inevitably turn to the topic of Artificial Intelligence. Okay, I realise that this is driven by my own fixation. The greengrocer might experience it differently, but as a creative professional, you cannot escape the subject. The emotions range from wonder and enthusiasm to fear and suspicion.

In this peculiar final phase of the pandemic, we are experiencing all the better what it is like not to be able to visit our favourite hangouts. I am collecting and researching those experiences, in order to get new ideas for spatial design. I use the lack of experiences due to the lockdown, to explore and understand my own needs.

When our cultural institutions open their doors again, some things will have changed for good. The invasion of digital media in visitors’ homes, forces museums and other public venues to evaluate their essential offerings. In a series of posts, I explore what may have changed and how forward-looking museums can benefit from that.

The 2020 edition of ‘The Experience Economy’ predicts time, attention and money as the key drivers of consumers’ behaviour in the 21st century. The ‘economics of attention’ gives way to a great new position for museums and other types of visitor centres. They will have to change the way they design their exhibitions, though.

Last year, two interesting new museums opened their doors in the Netherlands. One is called Wondr and is situated in Amsterdam. The other is Storyworld, located in Groningen. Both are small and will have to prove their value but they share a fascinating trait: they both focus on immersive storytelling. They use their space to tell stories about stories and in that way could be considered meta narrative spaces. For anyone interested in spatial storytelling, this is a trend to watch.
