a memorial centre for army veterans and the community from the former dutch east indies

The task: to turn the former Bronbeek military museum into a Memorial Centre for the Dutch East Indies. A place where the Indo community can look back upon the past, commemorate and look ahead. But also a place where army veterans can tell and find their stories. To create a single exhibition that does justice to the history and the emotions of these two very different groups, while remaining accessible to a broader audience.

The result: a completely new public presentation on 350 years of Dutch East Indian history, constructed in eight rooms to reflect different perspectives. The design, collections, history, info graphics, personal testimonies, film, and literary fragments together tell a probing story, which is far from finished.
