new project for the hansemuseum in lübeck

24-10-2024

Earlier this year, Tinker won the pitch for a new project at the European Hansemuseum in Lübeck, scheduled to open in May 2025 in celebration of the museum's 10th anniversary.

The assignment involves an expansion of the existing exhibition, including a revamped final space where visitors will experience an immersive film. Additionally, the overall museum experience will be enhanced through subtle adjustments to the intervening spaces, such as the introduction area, staircase, and corridor.

The 360° video installation in the final room will guide visitors through the rich history of the Hanseatic League as they embark on a journey from the past back to the present, posing the question: How much of the Hanseatic League remains in today’s world? Along the way, they’ll experience Lübeck’s vibrancy alongside the League’s key trading centres in Novgorod, Bruges, London, and Bergen, as well as the challenges of historic trade routes, the League’s political power, and its impact on goods and financial markets.

The subject aligns well with Tinker’s portfolio. Exploring historical themes in a modern context is something we often work on for various clients, allowing us to bring the rich history of the Hanse to life.

The museum merges the old castle monastery with a modern museum complex and serves as the premier destination for Hanse history worldwide. As a pioneer of our modern understanding of economics, the Hanse continues to shape the politics, economy, and society of the European continent. The museum makes the latest findings of Hanse research accessible and also addresses current issues of trade and the economy. This makes it an ideal place to reflect on both the future and the past.
